Lookers Volvo Colchester Discuss Their Move From Gold Winner to Headline Sponsor

A forward-thinking motoring firm, which scooped a top prize at this year’s Essex Digital Awards, has become headline sponsor for the 2015 competition.

Lookers Volvo Colchester – a branch of one of the UK’s leading car groups– will put their name to the groundbreaking online scheme, which is also backed by the Chronicle.

The move forms part of the car retailer’s strategy to overtake the competition and become a driving force on the Internet.

At the inaugural EDAs in April the Colchester firm picked up “Gold Award” in the Online Marketing Campaign category for their innovative digital magazine “Kronika”.

The company’s busy social media channels, website and Kronika form just part of their seismic shift to increase online interaction with customers.

In September Lookers Volvo Colchester joined forces with Volvo UK to become the first organization in history to sell a new car model exclusively online.

With a strong focus on internet-based business over the past few months and a strategy to become even more present on the web, Miles Alvis of Lookers Volvo Colchester described teaming up with the EDAs as an “easy decision”.

He added: “It was absolutely fantastic to win our award and forging this partnership was one of the easiest decisions I’ll ever make in this job.

“Volvo is a brand that leads the way when it comes to new technology and progression, and similarly, the Essex Digital Awards have led the way in developing a great platform for the digital talent and creativity within Essex to showcase on.

“At my branch in Colchester we are investing a large amount of effort in ensuring we reach people through many digital platforms.

“Obviously with something as high-value, tangible and long-lasting as a motor vehicle we still enjoying meeting many people at our showroom, but for many of them the first part of the decision-making-process begins online and we work very hard to ensure we provide a first-class service wherever and whenever customers need us.”

Mr Alvis revealed that winning the EDA last year has “revolutionised” the perception of his dealership as an online operator.

The EDAs is the first and only scheme to recognise the online achievements of businesses, school and charities from across the county.

Debbie Hunt, Lookers Divisional Corporate Sales Manager, who looks after business centres across Essex, Herts and London, has described the alliance with the EDAs as “very exciting”.

The news follows an announcement by EDAs organisers Premio64 in July that the 2015 Winners’ Evening will be held at Weston Homes Community Stadium, the home of Colchester United Football Club, on April 23 next year.
