Judging Spotlight: Robin Bailey

Throughout the duration of the Essex Digital Awards, we’ll be throwing the spotlight on our judges one at a time, to give you more insight into what makes them tick.

Robin BaileyRobin is a founder and owner of Capricorn Media Ltd. He has been a journalist and broadcaster for 32 years, progressing from regional newspapers as a news reporter, sub editor and sports editor to radio and then TV.

He has been broadcasting since 1987 and worked as a staff producer and broadcaster at BBC Sport from 1990 to 2001, covering Olympics, Paralympics, Commonwealth Games, Cricket and Rugby World Cups, Wimbledon, the Open and the Grand National for national radio and TV.

He has worked alongside personalities such as Adrian Chiles, Huw Edwards, Nicky Campbell, Matthew Pinsent, who he helped to train at the BBC, and Gary Lineker. He was a breakfast sport presenter at the BBC for approaching a decade, for Radio 5 Live and News 24 TV.

Following a spell as a Football Reporter with ITV Sport, Robin went freelance in 2002 and soon after set up Capricorn, which now specialises in Corporate Video, TV production and Media Training.

Robin’s expertise in sport has been invaluable for a number of councils in Essex in promoting their Pre-Games training camps for London 2012, and he has worked with big corporates such as Atkins, the engineering giants and Microchip, the global technology company on a variety of film projects.

Among the many strings to Robin’s bow, he is a voice-over artist working for international sports production company IMG on Premier League Preview, and Golfing World, which are programmes broadcast all over the world including the UK on Sky Sports. His past media trainees include Theo Walcott and Gareth Bale, while current clients the Rugby Football League and British Swimming.
